BED. holy crap.
kjpepper: (halloween)
Not much notable about yesterday. Another day spent in two hour bursts of activity follwed by three hour naps. Hoping my energy level stays constant today and that if I drink a shitton of water my digestive tract might start thinking about forgiving whatever greivous sin I committed against it last month.

Today is Labor Day. As far as I'm concerned, I'm still ruled by the rhythms of a school year, and summer, that horrid, misery making season, is finally over. Fall is usually my peak time, I'm looking forward to embracing the waning cursed day-star and somewhat cooler days. Hopefully September will be less stressful than August, but considering my finances are kinda in the crapper and work shows no signs of slowing down... well we'll see. Hopefully I can use one to fix the other.

I was introduced to the utter nerdliciousness of The Food Detectives yesterday. I think I may have a new favorite show. It's like Mythbusters meets Bill Nye the Science Guy, except with food. There was this whole segment about foods to never put in the microwave that was pretty damned awesome - apparently if you slice grapes in half and then split them carefully down the middle again (leaving the skin still connected) and then put them in the microwave, they catch fire.

me: ...do we have grapes?

[livejournal.com profile] sundart and [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat: ...no.

me: Can we go buy some?

S & S: NO.

Yeah, I never stated anywhere that deep down I'm not a ten year old boy.

Much as I wish I could spend the day sleeping again, I do need to get some productive things done today. Starting with the rest of last nights dishes. *sigh* Wish me luck and a kinder, gentler colon. >(

Work: Still Crazy. Think I'm going to try to play a little catch up over the weekend.

Self: Still nowhere near 100%. I've been achy and tired and damn if my digestion still is on strike. I think this weekend I'm going to try to nurse it back with lots of water, pink drink and soft easily digested food. Really this weekend I'm just dedicating to resting, with a lttle work throawn in - I didn't really rest at all on my vacation, and I rather desperately need it. Huzzah three day weekend.

Oh and I dropped three more pounds. Fuck. I hate it when my weight just goes into free fall like this. Really I just hate it when it spontaneously goes in either direction, and the only effect that my efforts at actively controlling it seems to be holding it steady at a fixed point. I might have to start doing that again.

Head: I'm really trying hard to just relax and let the meds do their job, but it's really really hard. Everyone says going on zoloft for the first time will mess you up quite a bit initially and just go with the flow, but it's tough cause I keep reacting to situations like "stimulous x has been recieved. Present reaction y. Reaction Y has experienced a critical error and needs to close. Send error report?" It's really unsettling. On the onther hand I'm not panicking anymore, so I suppose that's good? Mostly I'm cycling between tired, cranky and apathetic, with the random 30 minutes of mania thrown in just to keep me guessing. *sigh* I'm trying to go with the flow here and just let my brain adjust, but this is going to be a process, I can just tell.

One good thing? I fall asleep in a snap and sleep like a rock. That's been really nice. I intend to do it more.

[livejournal.com profile] morlock and [livejournal.com profile] sundart have been really good to me in the meantime, with the head pettins, the sympathetic listening to my bitching and wibbling and the hugs when I need em. The attention right now is deeply appreciated.

So yeah, the general plan is to survive today's workday as best I can, then come home and drop into a bed for a few hours. We'll see how that works.

I am listening to [livejournal.com profile] morlock and [livejournal.com profile] anzovin debate the real world logistics of superheroes. Specifically the plot devices that don't make sense according to real life physics. Pretty much [livejournal.com profile] anzovin's all "THAT'S RIDICULOUS THAT COULD NEVER WORK THAT MAKES NO SENSE" and [livejournal.com profile] morlock's all "actually no here is why it makes sense."

....the GEEKAGE. IT BURNS.

So [livejournal.com profile] anzovin and [livejournal.com profile] unfolded_cranes are taking swordfighting lessons. Which results in scenes like this happening on our front walk.

The evening dogwalkers must have been so confused.

[livejournal.com profile] sundart is trying to start seedlings in her and [livejournal.com profile] anzovin's room. This is rather hampered by the fact that the cats, Tabitha in particular a) knows she's doing this b) has the knowledge and persistance to bust into the room on occasion in attempts to nibble on the tender vittles inside.

This afternoon this showed up on the door:

... i am amused.

Just got back from going out to dinner with the Amoeba to celebrate [livejournal.com profile] morlock's employment and me not dying. Over probably bad for us diner food, we cheerfully discussed which DnD classes the six of us would be in real life and toasted the successes of the past week, and made the usual snarky jibes at each others expense sugarcoated with enough affection and love to make a cat sick. Sitting in the middle of the flow of conversation I was happy to realize anew how lucky I am to be able to call these five people friends, lovers, and family.

Cheers, mates.

Just in case the universe missed it the first thousand or so times, I am SO done with allergies. I wanna be able to pet my kitty again. (shut up, that's not what I meant.) I'm serious, he's starting to give me these awful "why don't you love me anymore?" looks.

Today I think warrents a bulleted list.
  • Woke up to a magnificent male in my bed. That's always a good way to start any day. Especially if you don't have to spend time wondering who this male is and how he got there and why both of you are naked. :)

  • this event was followed a little later by having breakfast with [livejournal.com profile] sundart and [livejournal.com profile] anzovin. I find it extremely amusing that we have this tendancy to send the Jew out for bagels on the weekend.

  • Saw Scary Movie 4 with [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat, [livejournal.com profile] htl_1126, [livejournal.com profile] drklord1922. Movie was incredibly wrong and silly. Enjoyed it rather more than it warrented I think.

  • Evening was spent with holy shit, the entire Amoeba in one space. When the fuck was the last time that happened?? event was supplemented by yummy beer can chicken dinner made by [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat, strawberry shortcake, and a viewing of South Park, Bigger Longer and Uncut. I still do a mean Terrence and Phillip impression. :)
Overall a good Sunday, though I did get some troubling news this afternoon that's got me worried. I'm sure everything will be okay, but I probably didn't need something else besides the itchy eyes keeping me up at night...

'cause really, looking up the aerial views of every residence you've ever lived in is only interesting the first few times.

1) type in a random city you've never been to. Try to find a landmark. This is much harder than it sounds, especially if all you know is that said landmark is in said city. Example - last nights pitiful failure in finding the Eiffel Tower in Paris. I know it's in Paris. I know it's near the Champs Elysees. (no I'm not going to bother with proper accenting right now) Do I know where the Champs Elysees is? not a friggin clue, and there are apparently like five streets that have that name! Turning on hybrid mode doesn't help - mostly markings for the various divisions of Paris take up most of the useable street map. So apparently if I knew which arrondissement the damn tower was in, I'd have an easier time of it.

I did, however, find the Louvre. And the Paris map has all of its Metro stations marked, how cool is that? NY needs to get on the ball... of course if NY did it there'd be people bitching about how it's a threat to National Security or some ish. Also, damn, but that's a buttload of stations to chart out.

Still haven't found the damn tower. You would think, being that big, it would be pretty damned hard to miss. However, I did quite a bit better finding St. Basil's Cathedral (It helps that the Kremlin's rather unmistakable from the air) and Big Ben, so I don't feel like too much of a heel. Next stop, the St. Louis Arch and that ginormous fountain in Chicago.

2) Amusement parks look really interesting from space. Suddenly out of orderly looking urban sprawl come the unexpected shapes and colors of rollercoasters and tents. For example, type in "dewey albert place, brooklyn, ny" in Satellite mode, zoom in all the way, then drag directly upwards. That's the Cyclone.

Interestingly enough, a good chunk of Walt Disney World is not viewable in high res. I could understand chunks of imagery being fuzzed out over military bases and some such, but come on, it's Disney World, not Area 51. You can see most of EPCOT, but that's pretty much it.

That's really what started this latest foray into google mapping - I'm not even sure how in retrospect I got into looking up theme parks... no wait I do. I started on the main page of Wikipedia, noted that they'd started constructing the Freedom Tower on the WTC site, from there I got to the world's tallest structures, the worlds biggest roller coasters... and then got mired in the Disney Empire project... heh, glad to see that I wasn't the only person who thought removing Figment from Imagination was a bad idea. Looks like they restored him. You know, I wouldn't mind going back there one last time. Maybe even by myself - do whatever the hell I want to do, without having to worry about where anyone else wants to go. The idea's rather horribly appealing. I mean, who goes to theme parks by themselves? usually you have parents, or kids, or at least one or two friends to haul along... and if you go by yourself, no one will make fun of you for spending the entire day riding Space Mountain and the Haunted Mansion over and over...

It's a thought. Anyways.

Tonight was good bordering on excellent, which is awesome becuase for a little while there it was starting to look like it might suck. It started with me hardcore craving fried chicken... so I got some extra breasts from Serio's on my way home from work (shut up, all of you) and then I remembered that we were supposed to have company so I took down a pack of thighs as well and was well into frying up a feast when I was told that expected events would not be happening tonight. Sadness. But no worries. I invited [livejournal.com profile] anzovin over for dinner, and had the satisfaction of feeding the entire Amoeba minus [livejournal.com profile] sundart (and even she gets to take some to work tomorrow as lunch, so I did get the entire family fed, huzzah). And apparently my chicken passes muster with [livejournal.com profile] morlock even, huzzah again. But yeah... while eating [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat and [livejournal.com profile] anzovin embarked on a long meandering conversation that went from dinner (around 8:15) to sunny coming home (around 11:15) which was fascinating to listen to. Especially since [livejournal.com profile] anzovin's voice started going around 10:45. But yeah, it was really nice just having most of the family all in one place for dinner, eating and talking and... hee. I should make dinner more often.
