So I have finally finished my Songs without Words tape, and it is beautiful.

Songs Without Words is a mix tape/CD theme originally started by either [livejournal.com profile] darkling_dreams or [livejournal.com profile] gossamer_gull, I don't quite remember which and just involved putting your favorite music without actual lyrics into a compilation. It was something I always wanted to do, and never quite got right until now.

The track list is as follows:

Side A:

  • Zbigniew Preisner - Main Title from The Secret Garden
  • Yoko Kanno - Charm (Escaflowne)
  • Astor Piazolla - Por una Cabeza (Tango from True Lies and Scent of a Woman)
  • BlackMore's Night - Mono Canz
  • Jethro Tull - Bourée
  • Mark Knopfler - Friends (The Princess Bride)
  • Dune - Valley Of Tears
  • Eric Serra - Akta (The Fifth Element)
  • Genesis - The Brazilian
  • Nobuo Uematsu - Freja's Theme (Final Fantasy IX)
  • Morcheeba - Diggin' A Watery Grave
  • Kenji Kawai - Theme from Vampire Princess Miyu
  • Noriyuki Asakura - Run To You - A Theme of Sagara Sanosuke (Rurouni Kenshin)
  • Joe Satriani - Oriental Melody
  • Mundy - Escape From Mantua (Romeo + Juliet)
  • Fluke - Zion (The Matrix Reloaded)
  • R.E.M. - Endgame

Side B:

  • Buena Vista Social Club - Buena Vista Social Club
  • Henry Mancini - Baby Elephant Walk
  • Delerium - Gateway
  • Chopin - Walz Triste (Waltz in C# minor)
  • Dave Brubeck - Take Five
  • The Grateful Dead - Serengetti
  • Brother Bones - Sweet Georgia Brown (Harlem Globetrotters Theme. Yep, go ahead and beat the New Yorker)
  • Eric Serra - Heat (The Fifth Element)
  • The Ventures - Wipeout
  • Squirrel Nut Zippers - The Interlocutor
  • Noriyuki Asakura - Tsuki mo naku, Hoshi mo naku (Rurouni Kenshin)
  • Yann Tiersen - La valse d'Amélie (orchestral - Amélie)
  • Steve Sharples - Bolero (Moulin Rouge! End Titles)
  • Vangelis - Hymn

There's of course more that didn't fit (may still swap or squeeze in Ray Lynch's Celestial Soda Pop) but I suppose that can wait for another tape . . . I also kinda cheated with the last song, as Hymn does have words, except sung very softly . . . Still. It's beautiful.

Mmmm . . . sweet buttery mix tape . . . *drool*

The songs without words tradition was begun by [livejournal.com profile] gossamer_gull. I just jumped on the bandwagon.

I keep waiting for the technology-freaks to come up with longer CDs so that I can add to my musical chronology. I know that Chloe's theme from Noir would definately make it on as well as Electronaut by VNV Nation and something ethereal from .hack/sign.
