So. The question of belly dance classes reopens. It's something I've been meaning to do practically since high school, and I must admit to reading about [livejournal.com profile] nepenthe01's shows and classes with some serious envy. It never seemed to be something I ever had time or money for... but I just found out that one of the Crescent Dancers is teaching classes here in Amherst on Tuesdays, and at $13 a pop ($11 if you preregister) the money thing is no longer excuse. And it even lets out early enough to go to Haven if I still wanna.

The next session starts April 4th and runs for 8 weeks, and I'm thinking of biting the bullet and finally going, seeing if I like it. I miss dancing, and I need to do something with myself physically anyway, 'specially as I'm somewhat appalled at the general state of my muscle tone (I'm so out of shape right now it's sick - I swear, I was in much better shape before I misplaced thirty-five pounds) and since I can't quite afford going to the gym and Bellenoire's out of commision still... hmm, note to self, need to stop by Laughing Dog and find out how much it's going to be to replace my back tire and tune Belle up...

In other news, remind me that DPDough bread sticks are never a good idea. Good fucking god, the garlic. It'll kill ya. I can still taste it. Bleck.

Perhaps the one thing that didn't benefit from the move to Amherst this year was my bike. Poor Bellenoire's been out in the elements this year a lot due to the general neglectfulness of her mistress. :( Basically the only times she got a break is when I would leave her at work.

Anyway, I just brought her in today cause I didn't want her getting stuck in a snowbank all winter... course, it's still too late, as something's hit her back rim, bending it all to fuckall and popping the inner tube. *shakes head* Gonna have to get that fixed. Lucky for me there's a bike shop in the back of our building. It's run by a bunch of Amherst hippies, but since bike repair's never something I need ass right away, I can deal. But for now, poor Belle's in for the winter. Have to do better by her next year.

In other news, I have to give major shots out to Luis. He's been my regular bus driver (to work) all year, a nice grandfatherly gentleman with a heavy spanish accent and always a kind word fo me in the morning. I must say he did a heroic job navigating the almost blizzard like conditions out there and the shitty, slippery roads. Mad props to him and the rest of the regular PVTA drivers out there braving the weather (both regular and UMass routes). To them and everyone that had to drive anyfuckingwhere today, get home safely.

In better news, I took a bunch of pics of the winter wonderland. Alas, all I had with me was my camera phone, but they should make for some fun postin's later on. For now, I think some tea is in order.

Two amusing observations:

1) I really like getting lunch at the Vermont Country Deli downtown. Especially when I get a sandwich and a large chocolate chip cookie because after tax, the total is $6.66. I've had a couple of superstitious cashiers there refuse to tell me the total for fear Satan himself would drop in for lunch or something. Dunno, I'd imagine that would be a selling point . . .

2) Anyone out there remember their high school physics? Was it one of Newton's laws that says "objects in motion tend to stay in motion; objects at rest tend to stay at rest?" anyone who knows, drop me a comment, because to my utter amusement today I found myself chanting that under my breath as I chugged uphill on my bike towards home this afternoon, and realized that I do that every time I have to do any laborious pedaling. God, I'm such a geek.

I haven't felt much like posting the past day or so. Mostly because my eyes have been too crusty to stare at the computer for a long period of time, and also because there isn't too much new to report. Gawd, I hate the Spring. The first half of it, it can't make up it's mind whether it wants to be winter or not. The second half it's warm enough, but then all the flora decides to use the wind for its nefarious reproductive purposes, thereby making everyone caught in the crossfire a sneezy, itchy wreck. Though I do find it perversely funny that I'm allergic to what is essentially tree sperm. And then by the time the planet's raging hormones have settled down, you still can't enjoy anything because all of this time the mosquitoes have been secretly plotting their death strategy for humanity.

Give me a long snowy winter over this bullshit any day. Or maybe a long, lazy autumn. Spring can go hang.

All right, I lied, little things have happened in the past two days. I fell off my bike yesterday on my way home, which in itself isn't a big deal but as I have to fall off my bike at least once per "season." I'm happy that I got my first fall over with this soon, with a minimum of damage to my person. I was heading up the shorter and steeper way home, up Rt. 9 (which is much less intimidating in practice than it is in theory) got all the way up Smith campus and was about to cross Paradise Road to the other side of the Quad when some bitch in a silver Audi or mercedes decides its a great idea to make a left turn without checking the sidewalk first. So I screech to a stop and put my foot down, only to have my ankle turn on me, and I can't stumble effectively with a bike between my legs! So I fell. Luckily the three chicks hanging out outside of the Smith house on the corner were really nice to me. Told them to say hi to [livejournal.com profile] mereunit for me. Wonder if, in her finals and homework induced insanity, she got the message. Anyway, I got back up, dusted off, grumbled a bit, got back on the bike and came home.

I've also managed to write a little here and there. I now have an prologue to the psycho killer nerd story. Still haven't thought of a title yet. It's awful right now, it needs some reworking before it's ready for human consumption. But I've at least started to write the thing, and starting is the second hardest part of doing this. (finishing, of course, being the hardest part.) We'll see how it goes. if I get to a point where I can write these things consistantly, I'll start posting bits for feedback.

Other than that, nothing much has happened. The other three whores of the apocalypse are still in varying stages of chronically ill. [livejournal.com profile] sundart is finally looking seriously into seeing a doctor, meanwhile the doctor [livejournal.com profile] beatgoddess is seeing has found new and exciting ways of being psychologically damaging to her patient and refuses to get past the fact that [livejournal.com profile] beatgoddess is not accepting "you're fat, everything that can be possibly wrong with you stems from the fact that you're fat, diet" as a diagnosis and treatment plan for her apnea and other issues.
Dieting has at most a 10% success rate, as 90-98 percent of people who diet gain the weight back. Most of the more extreme treatments for apnea have at least a 30% success rate, and yet all this puswad can spout is "Diet." Not helpful, especially when your patient has a history of eating disorders. And when [livejournal.com profile] beatgoddess actually pointed out the 90% failure rate, the doctor responded with "But look at the other 10%!" (Check [livejournal.com profile] beatgoddess's live journal for "Dr. Fatphobe's a Stupid Bitch in D Minor extended batshit remix")

*bang head against monitor*

Other than that everyone seems to be fine. I have to go bury myself under a cubic buttload of work at work now.

Kind of an uneventful day overall. Work was okay, and then biked the 2.5 miles uphill home. arrived home panting, but pleased - give it two weeks and it will seem like nothing. Hell, by june I'll probably be biking all the way to look park and back, thereby taking the long way home. Hey . . . wait, I need that song . . . *goes a searching*

Other than that, day pretty mellow. I got around to downloading pics off the digital camera of the kitties, and of my little project in a pot, the Fisher Price My First Homegrown Strawberries.

Pics of fuzzy kitties (warning, big pics) )

Oyasumii, everyone!

I finally got Bellnoire out of the shop today, and now I am sore. The good kind of sore, where you have this dull throbbing warm feeling from the thighs down.

Oh . . . heh heh *blush* in case someone out there is getting some seriously bad ideas, Bellnoire is my bike. Yes, I'm a dork. That said . . . wow. I'd forgotten how much i'd missed the feeling of lovely leg pumping yumminess, even though getting the two miles across town uphill was a bit poopy (six or so months out of practice will do that to you). But it all becomes worthwhile at the top of nearly a quarter mile downhill coast . . . ahhh. :) And then to think all that yucky uphill grind becomes downhill goodness on the way to work. awwwww yeah. I know one person who'll be looking forward to the morning commute. :)

Me shower now. Me sweaty.
