Self... just avoid waiting around for either of the five college buses from Mount Holyoke at night alone. Neither the waiting nor the subsequent bus ride foster anything remotely positive in your head.

That said, we're halfway through the last season of Avatar. Once again, I'm glad I'm actually getting to see them all, and in sequence. I'd missed a few eps here and there without realizing it. I'm rather terrified by the Avatar: Iroh's prison months/Oz crossover [livejournal.com profile] captainlove seems to be planning, but I must admit that his impression of Iroh saying "Do you know why they call me the Dragon of the West, prag?" did have me snarfing cola. So very very much wrong with that.

Currently I sit in my room, pouring my heart into Open Office writer and working my way through the last 12 oz of black cherry Smirnoff. The rather head-clearing effect the burn of it is having on me is a little counterproductive towards getting drunk, but I'm only about half through it and I've only been working on it for about 20 minutes or so. Inebriation WILL happen, damn it. with 12 oz, drunk is a biological inevitability. Which is fine. It's been that kind of day. I guess I'm just afraid the next two weeks will almost completely consist of those kinds of days, and what will happen when the rum's all gone?

ёхо, ёхо, жизн пирата для меня. Ярр.

  • I'm all right. Really. I'm not great, but I'm all right. Thanks for all the calls, IMs, hugs and love yesterday, they helped a lot. As did dessert at La Fiorentina's and Avatar the Last Airbender with Jon.

  • Today is scheduled to be nuts with teh packing and the work. May have to nip out in a bit for NOS. Or maybe just make myself some more coffee.

  • it's snowing... huh. It like just started 20 minutes ago and the ground's already coated. Hm.

  • Tea tree oil soap may just be the best shampoo ever invented for dreads, if you don't mind the smell. Actually even with the smell - you just have to be sure to stick your head under the water for like ten minutes to make sure it rinses out thoroughly.

  • Music Music Music!!! Northern Kings are amazing and I just found out why. Has much to do with one of the singers from Nightwish fronting it. Awww yeahhhhh. Also, Apocalyptica. I've decided between them and Rasputina, cello just needs to be part of the standard rock band ensemble. Really I'm just a big fan of wall of sound, full orchestrated rock. I apparently actually need to see True Blood... I was already intrigued by the ads last fall and the prospect of Anna Paquin, who I've had something of an admiration for since The Piano, but Jon played Jace Everett's "Bad Things" for me last night and, well, it will be the first thing on my netflix queue when move time happens.

  • Meat: no word yet on when the needles arrive. I think I need to call people tomorrow and figure out what's up. Meantime apparently the steroids seem to be treating me all right - no more ankle swelling/pinched nerves. Course I'm a little annoyed by the side effects, which are somehow more noticeable than when I was on the prednisone. I've been more of an emotional wreck lately (that could just be stress), I'm craving sugar and simple (c word that I refuse to use)s like HELL, and my reproductive system has decided that whatever schedule it's quietly been running on for the past near 20 years is obsolete now and it's more fun to start each week with a two day period. Um. What. No. No real sign that the intestines are about to go splode, but then again I felt pretty fine before the video camera revealed the jejunum full of potential Old Faithfuls, so me feeling okay may not be the best thing to go by. :P Decided I'm not going to worry too much about my weight - I'm too busy really to give it much thought, and besides, in a couple of weeks I'm going to be back in New York, Land of Walk Everywhere, and I rather fully expect whatever excess I'm carrying to pretty much fall off. It always does when I'm there for any significant period of time.

  • I just realized my move date is the day Watchmen comes out... this is making me rather sad, considering who I assumed I'd be seeing it with when the first teasers dropped. Mew.
Lunch, then back to the grind... :P

ETA: aaaaaaaaaand back on the dragon wagon...

RIP Pat Morita

It's funny, cause while [livejournal.com profile] morlock and I were watching Avatar: The Last Airbender marathon on Nickelodeon (which BTW, everyone needs to see right the fuck now, it's fucking amazing, more on it later) he came up in conversation, mostly in trying to place one of the voices. (the character in question turned out to be voiced by Mako, obviously still having a raucous amount of fun with voice acting since Samurai Jack). But damn. He will be missed.

I had a very good, quiet Thanksgiving. I spent the day with [livejournal.com profile] morlock as he cooked a cubic mess of extremely yummy deep fried chicken, fries, and cookies (go here for a picture, it was quite tasty) and watching first the Macy's parade (yay... though, teh fuck, no Hess advertising? Good thing I already know what this year's truck is - and it's red!), then the aforementioned cartoon, since they ran the entire first season of it. Seriously... one or two episodes in, and I was hooked. The animation is gorgeous (if rather heavily influenced by both Cowboy Bebop (one guest character is a dead ringer for Spike) and Princess Mononoke), the design and mythos of the world is interesting (the title's linked to the wikipedia article on it, which is rather exhaustive in its explanations), the characters are well drawn and believable (they're kids, and very real ones too), and the stories have that blend of epic and serious with room for completely screwball humor that anime has had a lock on until recently. Also... I was actually surprised that this was a Nickelodeon produced 'toon, as really, both them and the regular division of Cartoon Network have been churning out crap for the past few years. Also it manages to be fairly adult for it's Y7 rating, which is very unusual for an American 'toon. So yeah. Totally splitting DVD box set costs with [livejournal.com profile] morlock when it comes out in January.

The rest of the evening consisted of stuffing myself to the point of sleepiness, hanging out a little with [livejournal.com profile] sundart and [livejournal.com profile] anzovin when they returned from Thanksgiving with the Jews that she's been dreading (but turned out ok), and other than some annoying and unfortunately timed yapping of some small muff of a spoiled canine one of sydmor's next door neighbor's holiday guests had brought over, it was a quiet evening of cuddling and falling asleep in front of the TV. Yay.

Today I'm up in sydmor's apartment, waiting on repairfolk for their dryer and enjoying the quiet of what feels like a completely empty building. All them crazy folk must be out shopping.
