My hard drive is indeed okay. This afternoon when I came back from work there was a joyous reunion between me and this:

3rd floor is a start

but it's only the 3rd floor you say. Pff, it took me nearly a MONTH just to get that right.

But yeah, Beavis's brain is just dandy, even if his body's dead. He looks forward to a prolonged existance as a USB drive. It's really a pity LaCie Brick doesn't make enclosures - it would be sort of appropriate for Beavis to continue life as a gigantic LEGO bick. As it is, once an enclosure is found he will be starring in the computer remake of The Brain That Wouldn't Die, Complete with MST3K shadows.

I did lose a few files, but none I was particularly attached to. All of which were in the Documents and Settings folder - yet another instance of why you should never ever ever ever ever save anything in a directory that is part of Windows. Any time I've lost any data pertaining to some sort of hardware failure, it's always on the Desktop or in the My Documents folder, meanwhile any files I've saved on C: or a subdirectory of C, they've been just fine. So those of you with Itunes Music libraries and pictures, beware. Me, all I lost were some crappy celly pictures. I was going to make a little gallery of them, but now never mind. Which is perfectly okay, as I'm not kidding about teh crappy.

[livejournal.com profile] morlock (whose own computer has recovered nicely) and I are going to see Idlewild tonight. :)

Beavis is busy getting his certificate of death as we speak. :P Motherboard's fucked.

This would be fine and good if for the teeny fact that I CAN'T AFFORD A NEW ONE RIGHT NOW.

Going to have a nice prolonged pout.

dead beavis
dead beavis
dead beavis isn't much fun. :P

Seriously, I'm going into mild laptop withdrawal. Mostly because I thought of yet another adjustment that I should make to my lego model currently trapped in Beavis' comotose brain. And while I _could_ start it over form scratch on some other compy, as I know what bricks I need and everything, that seems like too much effort to expend on anything but a last resort. So bleh.

Beavis also seems to have pulled a friend into his comatose state, as last night [livejournal.com profile] morlock's Spiritus Sancti wouldn't start up either. Both of them will be taking a little trip to the shop today.

Luckily there is Lost to distract me. we've just finished Episode six. Steadily getting more and more WTF all the time. I'm really starting to believe that all of these people are characters in a LARP run by a psych ward escapee.

I've been reading a lot of graphic novels and manga lately as well as regular books, no thanks to [livejournal.com profile] morlock. We've both been keeping up with the Scott Pilgrim series as it comes out, which is adorably silly. I recently got the latest trade of Strangers in Paradise, which I think may be the second to last one in the series, at least I heard somewhere that Terry Moore was finally ending it this year. I think I mentioned Blankets a couple of weeks back, which was a lovely, if sad, little trifle. And I'm waiting to borrow Fun Home from [livejournal.com profile] morlock. I'm very amused that he read that and now suddenly he wants to read all my DTWOF. *giggle* Incidentally, I should check if there's another book out. The last few episodes I've read lately seem years ahead of the last storyline I remember. *checks* yep. I'm missing at least one. I know I have up to Post-DTWOF, and I might D and Sundry Other Carbon-Based Life Forms TWOF, but I don't think I do (thanks of course, to [livejournal.com profile] innostransa, who gifted me with the entire series to date one birthday a couple of years back)

Long day today... gotta close concession by myself. Rar. And now... these messages.

Hmmmph

Okay, now I think Little Beavis is/was faking it, cause I sit on sydmor's couch and he's fully charged, behaving beautifully and acknowledging his power supply as if there had never been a thing wrong with it. I give up. *throws up hands* I swear every single computer I acquire sooner or later develops severe mental (processor-al?) issues: my ancient workhorse IIGS had some sort of mania and the uber springloaded floppy drive to go with it (it once spit a 5.25" floppy (remember those?) across the room in a fit of pique), MasterFreak was schizophrenic (how else do you explain that the jumpers for almost all the devices were for completely incongruous settings?), and now I think Beavis is bipolar. I wonder, if I poured caffiene into his battery or something... will he begin running around the house yelling "01001001 00100000 01100001 01101101 00100000 01110100 01101000 01100101 00100000 01000111 01110010 01100101 01100001 01110100 00100000 01000011 01101111 01110010 01101110 01101000 01101111 01101100 01101001 01101111 00100001 00100000 01001001 00100000 01101110 01100101 01100101 01100100 00100000 01000011 01101111 01101101 01110000 01110010 01100101 01110011 01110011 01100101 01100100 00100000 01000001 01101001 01110010 00100000 01100110 01101111 01110010 00100000 01101101 01111001 00100000 01010101 01010011 01000010 00101101 01101000 01101111 01101100 01100101 00100001*?"

...right, I'm obviously up way too late. but I'm enjoying the quiet of a house bedded down for the night and only kinda missing my usual after-hours company, though he'll be back tomorrow with stories of his adventures and some sort of thing he's bringing back for me that he's being quite infuriatingly mysterious about, per usual. :) Today's been pretty quiet all told - spent the evening first wolfing down protiene rich goodness thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sundart, hanging some with the Cute Polish Girls, as [livejournal.com profile] htl_1126 showed up for a bit, then dicking around on morlock's compy for a while before investigating that my computer seems to like faking power issues in order to get attention.

Considering my latest pursuit, I've been hunting for Arabic music/fusion again. Recommendations, anyone? [livejournal.com profile] anyone? [livejournal.com profile] bueller? [livejournal.com profile] nepenthe01?

*sigh* well, it was a good day.

went to see Wallace & Gromit, Curse of the Were-Rabbit, which was excellent, as expected. Plus it's fun dragging the Jew out and making him be social. :) The rest of my day was pretty much absorbing the white noise that is torrential rain outside.

Now the annoying bit.

I managed to melt somewhat my laptop's power cord this morning - and now, even with a nice happy electrical tape splint, it refuses to work. While good on a fire safety level, those of you that know how firmly my computer is glued to my butt know what a pain in the ass that is. Not just for me, but [livejournal.com profile] sundart uses it for writing in the morning so it's pretty imperative that it function. Which it can't do without power.

Dell's web site has been less than helpful. Even better, it's been headache inducing.

Anyone else have any suggestions, or feel like being nice and taking a crack at helping me replace this stupid thing, you're welcome to it. The offending part number is (0)9364U (which apparently some of them were recalled, better and better) and my laptop service tag is 6HF4241.

I'm going to go finish walking the direct-to-scifi-network sequel to the Dungeons and Dragons movie... which is only slight less of a travesty than the original, though this one benefits from the lack of JarJaresque Wayans brother.
