Okay, now I think Little Beavis is/was faking it, cause I sit on sydmor's couch and he's fully charged, behaving beautifully and acknowledging his power supply as if there had never been a thing wrong with it. I give up. *throws up hands* I swear every single computer I acquire sooner or later develops severe mental (processor-al?) issues: my ancient workhorse IIGS had some sort of mania and the uber springloaded floppy drive to go with it (it once spit a 5.25" floppy (remember those?) across the room in a fit of pique), MasterFreak was schizophrenic (how else do you explain that the jumpers for almost all the devices were for completely incongruous settings?), and now I think Beavis is bipolar. I wonder, if I poured caffiene into his battery or something... will he begin running around the house yelling "01001001 00100000 01100001 01101101 00100000 01110100 01101000 01100101 00100000 01000111 01110010 01100101 01100001 01110100 00100000 01000011 01101111 01110010 01101110 01101000 01101111 01101100 01101001 01101111 00100001 00100000 01001001 00100000 01101110 01100101 01100101 01100100 00100000 01000011 01101111 01101101 01110000 01110010 01100101 01110011 01110011 01100101 01100100 00100000 01000001 01101001 01110010 00100000 01100110 01101111 01110010 00100000 01101101 01111001 00100000 01010101 01010011 01000010 00101101 01101000 01101111 01101100 01100101 00100001*?"

...right, I'm obviously up way too late. but I'm enjoying the quiet of a house bedded down for the night and only kinda missing my usual after-hours company, though he'll be back tomorrow with stories of his adventures and some sort of thing he's bringing back for me that he's being quite infuriatingly mysterious about, per usual. :) Today's been pretty quiet all told - spent the evening first wolfing down protiene rich goodness thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sundart, hanging some with the Cute Polish Girls, as [livejournal.com profile] htl_1126 showed up for a bit, then dicking around on morlock's compy for a while before investigating that my computer seems to like faking power issues in order to get attention.

Considering my latest pursuit, I've been hunting for Arabic music/fusion again. Recommendations, anyone? [livejournal.com profile] anyone? [livejournal.com profile] bueller? [livejournal.com profile] nepenthe01?

kjpepper: (new york)
Well okay, two.

fuck. three am. why am I awake... oh well, play on LJ time. I should make a post about the impending trip to NY. But I don't have a good NYC icon... no, the subway ones don't quite cut it, I need something kinda generic and iconic - like times square or something. Something people will be all like a-ha! new york! *makes new icon* Not really what I want to do, but will do for now. hey, while I'm at it remember those snowstorm pics I took with the phone a while ago? wasn't I going to make one into an icon? *makes new icon* *makes default icon* ... damn. Still have thirty someodd left... and two more in the pipe...

That's more or less my train of thought at the beginning of this entry. Course the best icon I saw in the last week was Penn Jillette saying "Shut the fuck up!" No subtitles. It's pretty plain what he's saying. So wanted to steal.

Course instead of making the aforementioned post I want to go to sleep again... *yawn*

Anyways, it's official - this trip to NY I will have the company of a [livejournal.com profile] morlock. We're going to head down on Saturday morningish and come back Monday morningish, since neither of us have work on MLK day (he said something about coming home, finding our white girls and doing some overcoming... well ok, the overcoming was me. Yes, we're going to hell. Shut up.)

This is going to be fun for many reasons, the most important of which being if I bring someone with me it not only means that I automatically don't have to spend the entire weekend cooped up in The House, but I get to play tour guide on crack. Seriously, one of my favorite things to do is meet up with people I know that didn't grow up in teh City and play tourist. It's mutually beneficial - if they've got a New Yorker with them that actually knows what they're doing they're not going to look all "hey! I'm a tourist! Mug me!" And I get some serious pavement pounding time and the chance to go places I haven't been in a while. So... I'm kind of excited.

I'm also a little nervous. [livejournal.com profile] morlock gets to meet the crotchety old man I call Dad. I'm pretty sure he's going to fall under the umbrella of "Andee's weird friends" my parents have been lumping all of my associates under since, oh, middle school, and that's really fine - explaining him would probably make Dad's head explode. :)

Anycrap. [livejournal.com profile] morlock and I have been piecing together a bit of a packed itinerary:
  • Nintendo World (really that's how the idea of this trip got started)

  • The transit museum (I've never been, which considering my subway fetish, is rather inexcusable)

  • Times Square and its environs. Just cause.

  • Grand Central - I was making a crack to [livejournal.com profile] sundart recently about how they put a transit museum annex and a satellite of Junior's in the basement of Grand Central so that the hipster Manhattanite yuppies don't have to a) go to Brooklyn or b) risk getting shot, though by the time they put those in, both the neighborhoods around Junior's and the museum had started the scary gentrification process that's been sweeping the city like a rash, sort of making the point of the satellites moot. Still, I'm for Junior's being in a more accessible place - somewhere that makes cheesecake I will deign to eat (normally I hate cheesecake) has something going for it... but I digress.

  • General Andee stomping grounds - 34th street, the Village, 23rd street, possibly the south end of Central Park West, maybe a bit of Prospect Park and Park Slope if we can fit them in... oooh, haven't been to Cousin John's Bakery in a while...

  • OMG so much subway riding. Note to self, bring the fucking Metrocards home with me, 'cause they're doing so much good in Massachusetts. Honestly, I think [livejournal.com profile] morlock would be happy just if we skipped the rest (not the Nintendo store though) and spent the weekend traversing all 656 miles of in-service track... can you do that in one weekend? I wonder.

I'm also playing with the idea of hitting either the Apple Store (cause it looked really cool in this week's Advocate), MoMA (they're featuring Pixar, but ouch, admission (we've got student IDs but still), and eep, museums on weekends - crowded!), or the Museum of the Moving Image (again with the whole museum problem - the Transit museum by contrast is rumored to be dead quiet and confirmed to be dirt cheap). Will probably ditch all three ideas and head for quieter ground somewheres. And some hangout time with Dad will be in order, plus he made some threat about taking us + Amanda and Alé to dinner somewhere (not Stan, though - he must be working)... wonder if they've been to Jekyll and Hyde's? I also need to spend some quality time picking at Mom's piano (hmm, pack music), and I'm thinking of bringing the SNES down with me so that [livejournal.com profile] morlock and I will have something to do at home that's *ahem* parentally kosher, since I'm not bothering with the complicated explanation.

Soooooooo, yeah. We'll be busy. :) oh and [livejournal.com profile] jaicat and [livejournal.com profile] aisha7576, this is your official notice - if you would like to tag along for any bit of the above, call me. :)

and now, back to sleep.

Does it make me a bad person that i get vastly annoyed when people post large pictures on LJ? a large picture meaning:

a) not behind a cut
b) greater than 600 px wide
c) with no knowledge whatsoever as to how to properly and efficiently use JPG compression?

cue up the Ranty McRantypants )

In other news today was quiet and a little strained, but overall a better one than most, probably due to the three hour nap in the middle. Had dinner with [livejournal.com profile] captainlove down in South Hadley, which was tasty, and was also treated to a rather unexpected guitar solo. *jaw drop* I've always admired actual guitarists, as opposed to just chord players. I mean, Stanley introduced me to such fun stuff as Joe Satriani when I was smaller and occasionally I've been known to listen to a bit of Django Reinhardt though I haven't in a while. Plus classical guitar? Murderous vile stuff to play, even if it sounds gorgeous. Anycrap... sheesh. I love that about people sometimes - you think you know them and then suddenly you discover something completely unexpected about them that just makes you go "Gfugrah??" I like being surprised.

Came home to find that [livejournal.com profile] morlock had expiated the past couple of days worth of yuckiness. I am no longer the only member of the amoeba without a Batman themed shirt, because now I've got meself a Nightwing logo shirt. Yeah baby!! So that made me squee like all get out, and the cats probably thought I'd gone insane or something. Though... honestly the squeeage and the accompanying tearing up probably had more to do with the note he'd tucked into the packaging that contained a world of much needed sweetness. Whatever fuckupery's going on right now... we're gonna get through it. I just need to be reminded of that every so often, I guess.

Evening was rounded up with WWE Smackdown and much to think about. Tomorrow work, possibly Hedwig, then Squillage party.

[livejournal.com profile] morlock finally finds out this morning what his birthday present is after putting up with me teasing him about it since last week.
[livejournal.com profile] morlock: Why are you dressed up?
[livejournal.com profile] kjpepper: For tonight.
M: Where are we going?
KJ: [mysteriously] Chicopee.
M: OMG we're gonna get shot.
KJ: [peeved] We're not going to get shot.
M: You're going to get me shot for my birthday.
KJ: No I'm not.
M: [suspiciously] You're not taking me to Anthony's, are you?
KJ: If I were taking you to a strip club, I'd tell you.
M: [relieved] Ok.
KJ: I wouldn't just spring that on you!
M: Thank you.
KJ: Besides, Anthony's is in South Hadley. We're going to Chicopee.
M: It's right on the line. It's still on Memorial Drive.
KJ: Oh. Well, we're going to Memorial Drive...
M: Are we going to the HuKeLau?
KJ: Yep.
M: [suspiciously] Who's playing?
KJ: Someone who's going to give you stiffy material for weeks.
[pause]
M: [incredulously] Caroline Rhea is NOT playing the HuKeLau!
KJ: [with big "I win everything" grin] Yes she is.
M: [tacklehugs KJ]
birthday + keeping track of your partner's favorite stand-up comedians = I think I just got the best girlfriend evar award this morning.

Now please don't let the show suck.
kjpepper: (Caress (Luis Royo))
What is with people proposing to me on my birthday!? Last year, [livejournal.com profile] sundart presented me with a ring and asked me a certain question and after much incoherent screaming of joy I answered in the affirmative... This year...

So last night [livejournal.com profile] morlock took me out for a bit, down by the railroad tracks in case a train happened by (cause goddamn I love trains). Not so much with the train (one of these days I'll catch one *shaking fist*) but what happened while we were there more than made up for it. Present #1 was a skein of soft squishy purple yarn for my hair (which I still have to do later) but what made that especially squeeful is that he broke off a long piece of it, took my hand in his, and wound it around both our hands saying he wanted to officially be tied to me, which about lost me the ability to talk for a little while... I mean, we'd talked about being handfasted before, but somehow not this officially, or this gorram touchingly. Present number 2 is a necklace of knotted cord and charms that remind me to live, create, inspire and trust, with a panther charm in the middle. I'd take a picture a la last year but... stupid broke camera.

Damn that man loves me.

So I'm engaged, twice over. Pretty much all I have to say about that can be found in the subject line.

Today is my day off, and everyone's off working, so I intend to spend the rest of it grinning like a mad fool, doing a fuckton of laundry, and doing my hair while watching brainless TV. Hmm. Maybe I'll watch DVDs instead. But... yeah. So far, this birthday is rated U for Underpants. :)
